One could rant endlessly about Portuguese wine culture, the variety of vines, taste and wonderful food. There are now over 200 grape varieties on the Portuguese wine range. With this article we present a small introduction to the beautiful world of wines from Portugal, with an introduction to selected red and white grape varieties and the Portuguese climate that gives Portugal's wines their unforgettable taste.

Yes, we are Puxisardinophile! Puxisardinophile are the lovers of sardine cans - whether filled or empty as a collector's item. Although we prefer the filled ones. One of our favorite sardine brands comes from Matosinhos, about ten kilometers northwest of Porto on the Atlantic. In this port city is the Fábrica de Conservas Pinhais, the Pinhais canning factory, which we were allowed to visit on our last Porto trip. Here you can find out what makes Pinhais & Nuri so special. Behind Saboreal are three good friends whose goal is to bring traditional fish specialties to the world with a modern twist and in a new guise. For example to Berlin, to us! All pies are made from locally sourced ingredients and sustainably caught fish, and are hand-produced in the Algarve. Vincent Jonckheere, one of the founders, visits us and lets you taste his sardine, mackerel and tuna pies. We look forward to seeing him and of course to you!

But Madeira is also the protected name of a very excellent and still little-known liqueur wine that comes from the Atlantic island of Madeira, which belongs to Portugal. There are close ties between France and Portugal and there are a number of parallels: among other things, viticulture plays an important role in both countries. Not only for the self-image of its residents, but also for business and tourism. So it's no wonder that as French people in Berlin we are so in love with Portugal and its products, including wine! Antonio Madeira and Tiago Teles are two winemakers that we personally know well and value both for their exceptional wines and as good friends. Both belong to the group of “French Portuguese” who have one foot in France and the other in Portugal. Their wines "Vinhas Velhas 2013" and "Maria da Graça 2015" are among our favourites. Here we tell you why that is.

Last year some of you could already taste how well Vinho Verde from Portugal goes with asparagus from Brandenburg. That's why we're repeating our festival this season - if the weather cooperates, of course again with the old varieties from the Demeter farmer Paul Schulz from Havelsee . In the last week of February we flew to Porto to visit the two wine fairs "Essência do Vinho" and "Simplesmente Vinho". In just a few days we have discovered numerous exciting wines, seen many friends again and placed a few new orders that will be coming to us very soon. Because the first edition was so successful last year, we're going into the second edition in March with our cardboard party! On October 16th and 17th we held a small in-house exhibition. Under the title "Festa Portuguesa" we invited 3 of the most exciting young winemakers from Portugal to Berlin: Rita Marques Ferreira, Luis Louro and Antonio Madeira. We wanted to offer our customers the opportunity to get to know the wines of the three in a relaxed atmosphere. The weather was on our side, the shop was full and the atmosphere was great, the customers were enthusiastic, the winegrowers were satisfied and of course we were too!
