The bonito (Katsuwonus pelamis) is a genus of its own, which does not belong to the tuna zoologically, but is their closest relative, is marketed as such and also tastes very similar.

It grows about a meter long and weighs over 20 kilograms. The seven dark vertical stripes on the silvery belly are typical. The bonito lives in tropical and subtropical seas, but is also occasionally caught in the North Sea in summer. It is absent in the eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

The species is not endangered around the Azores where all the fish are caught by Santa Catarina.

Thunfisch mit Ingwer - eine perfekte Kombination!

Alles von Santa Catarina ist fantastisch und empfehlenswert - dieser Thunfisch ist allerdings mein Favorit!
Er hat nichts mit dem klassischen Dosen-Thunfisch vom Supermarkt gemein. Ganz im Gegenteil - er ist eine echte Delikatesse! Beste Fischqualität mit dezent scharfen Ingwerscheiben, ein kulinarisches Gedicht. Ich esse ihn gerne zum einfachen Gemüsereis oder als Vorspeise/Tapas mit Oliven und Weißbrot, damit der Geschmack sich voll entfalten kann.
Meine wählerische Feinschmecker-Schwester will nichts anderes mehr zum Geburtstag!
