Quevedo's Porto Tawny Colheita 1976 is an exceptional port wine that was created in Europe in one of the hottest and driest years of the 20th century.

It was carefully fermented in granite vats (lagares) and stored in chestnut barrels for almost 50 years.

Today it impresses with a harmonious and complex flavor palette with notes of crème brûlée, nuts, spices and citrus fruits.

Tasting Notes:

  • Color: light brick with green border.
  • Aroma: Elegant and complex with aromas of crème brûlée, nuts, caramel, almonds, hazelnuts and citrus fruits.
  • Taste: Balanced with a pleasant sweetness balanced by a subtle acidity. As the wine progresses, spicy notes emerge, culminating in a long-lasting and spicy finish.

The 1976 Colheita Tawny Port is a cuvée of various grape varieties, including Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional.

Bottled in May 2023, it is characterized by its complex depth of flavor and a nuanced finish.

The wine is fresh, youthful and balanced. Despite its elegance and taste, it should last indefinitely, barring cork defects.

There is no need to store colheitas, so enjoy it immediately.

Manufacturer

Although the Quevedo family has been producing port wine for more than 5 generations, the current company was only founded in 1993. This makes us one of the youngest port wine houses on the Douro.

With less than 30 years of existence, we feel like we're still at the beginning of the journey and that every day is a new page that we fill with what we love to do most: explore all the possibilities of enjoying wine.

In the late '70s, Oscar and Beatriz Quevedo decided to start a family in S. João Pesqueira, in the heart of the Douro Valley. Both are descendants of families with a long tradition in viticulture and port wine production.

The first Quevedo vineyards were planted in 1889 by Abel Gouveia Costa in Valongo dos Azeites, in S. João da Pesqueira. Abel was succeeded by his son, Raul Gouveia Costa, who made the business flourish, and then by his son-in-law, João Batista Quevedo, who expanded the vineyards into new operations and passed on the love of winemaking to his son, Oscar Quevedo.

Beatriz's family also had their roots in the Carrazeda district on the north bank of the Douro. The main property of the family was the Quinta da Alegria with the train station of the same name.

After making port in his father's facilities for a number of years, Oscar Sr. built a new winery that is now the Quevedo's headquarters. In the meantime he increased the vineyards to the current 100 hectares and 25 hectares of organic olive cultivation.

In 1993 the Quevedo brand was launched, heralding a new era for the family, who were finally bottling port under their own brand, something only possible since 1986 when Portugal joined the EU.

Growing up surrounded by vineyards and barrels, Cláudia and Oscar Quevedo (Jr.) have followed in their parents' footsteps in the family business.

Cláudia Quevedo graduated in oenology from the University of Vila Real in 1998. Since then she has been making port wines in Quevedo. Cláudia is married to Fernando João Martins and lives near the winery with their children Beatriz and João.

Oscar Quevedo (Jr.), who studied economics in Porto and worked in finance in Switzerland and Spain, joined the family in 2009 after the death of his grandfather. He is responsible for Quevedo sales in more than 40 countries.

He is married to Nadia Adria, who will join the company in 2020 and will be responsible for the Marketing and Tourism department. The couple have three children: Marc, Alba and Miguel.
