Josè Noè is a hazelnut farmer in Lequio Berria, Piedmont - and he does it with passion.
Initially, he worked for over 30 years in a research center for raw materials in the confectionery industry, but a few years ago he felt the desire to live and work in a more natural and natural way. So he made a radical about-face and took over his parents' farm, on which he has been cultivating his own hazelnut trees ever since and marketing the harvest himself. His estate covers an area of around 12 hectares, on which 4,200 trees grow on some very steep slopes at around 680 meters above sea level.
Cultivation on these inaccessible individual locations is difficult, but only there do the climatic conditions under which the "Tonda Gentile delle Langhe" variety grows and thrives. This autochthonous variety is considered by connoisseurs to be the best in the world.
The harvest begins at the end of August and lasts for more than six weeks. As soon as the fully ripe nuts fall from the tree, Noè and his employees collect them so that they do not absorb too much moisture from the soil.
