Once a year or even once in a lifetime, important occasions such as the end of a year, a birth or an anniversary are celebrated. Q Grande Reserva can be a gift for loved ones or kept for special occasions, especially if it is of rare and excellent quality. This is the opportunity for a toast (and a speech!) to honor and remember these moments with friends. Forever. For each "Q" release, we blend our local grape varieties Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, known for their small and intensely fragrant fruits.

Deep ruby red with violet reflections, but not completely opaque. Thanks to the fresh and pure Touriga Franca majority, this wine integrates the oak very well and shows complex and balanced aromas of ripe red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, but also notes of blueberries, currants and gentle hints of grilled bread and vanilla.

On the palate: Soft and pure at the entrance, the young and ripe fruits act first, then tight-knit and high-quality structured tannins with fantastic freshness and acidity join in to give this wine a full-bodied presence without being heavy.

A long and velvety finish satisfies our palate, leading us to a long-lasting finish with pure fruits and a gentle hint of pure dark chocolate.

Manufacturer

Although the Quevedo family has been producing port wine for more than 5 generations, the current company was only founded in 1993. This makes us one of the youngest port wine houses on the Douro.

With less than 30 years of existence, we feel like we're still at the beginning of the journey and that every day is a new page that we fill with what we love to do most: explore all the possibilities of enjoying wine.

In the late '70s, Oscar and Beatriz Quevedo decided to start a family in S. João Pesqueira, in the heart of the Douro Valley. Both are descendants of families with a long tradition in viticulture and port wine production.

The first Quevedo vineyards were planted in 1889 by Abel Gouveia Costa in Valongo dos Azeites, in S. João da Pesqueira. Abel was succeeded by his son, Raul Gouveia Costa, who made the business flourish, and then by his son-in-law, João Batista Quevedo, who expanded the vineyards into new operations and passed on the love of winemaking to his son, Oscar Quevedo.

Beatriz's family also had their roots in the Carrazeda district on the north bank of the Douro. The main property of the family was the Quinta da Alegria with the train station of the same name.

After making port in his father's facilities for a number of years, Oscar Sr. built a new winery that is now the Quevedo's headquarters. In the meantime he increased the vineyards to the current 100 hectares and 25 hectares of organic olive cultivation.

In 1993 the Quevedo brand was launched, heralding a new era for the family, who were finally bottling port under their own brand, something only possible since 1986 when Portugal joined the EU.

Growing up surrounded by vineyards and barrels, Cláudia and Oscar Quevedo (Jr.) have followed in their parents' footsteps in the family business.

Cláudia Quevedo graduated in oenology from the University of Vila Real in 1998. Since then she has been making port wines in Quevedo. Cláudia is married to Fernando João Martins and lives near the winery with their children Beatriz and João.

Oscar Quevedo (Jr.), who studied economics in Porto and worked in finance in Switzerland and Spain, joined the family in 2009 after the death of his grandfather. He is responsible for Quevedo sales in more than 40 countries.

He is married to Nadia Adria, who will join the company in 2020 and will be responsible for the Marketing and Tourism department. The couple have three children: Marc, Alba and Miguel.

Vinification: Our Grande Reserva is the wine we most enjoy making each year. It is also the most difficult and yet the easiest! The easiest because we just have to select the best batches to mix and match. The most difficult because it is extremely difficult to get everything perfect, from the wonderful fruit to the harvest, the winemaking and the aging. There are so many little details that can go wrong, but in the end we have the challenge of selecting the best barrels for this exclusive blend that will reflect the best expression of our 2017 harvest. This wine will reward you if you keep it in your cellar for the next 2 decades, but if you decide to open it in the next 2 years, give it a quick decant before serving to enhance the complexity of the flavors .
