From a 120-year-old vineyard in the Douro Superior, on granite soil, 800 meters above sea level, comes this highly complex white wine, which combines so many flavors: On a very mineral base (flint and damp stone) sit juicy fruity notes of dried apricot, pineapple, and ripe citrus fruits. Lively, very rich and smooth, yet light and fresh.
A “serious” wine that leaves a long aftertaste with light nuances of bitter citrus peel.
This wine fermented spontaneously and without temperature control in huge (700-liter) barrels, where it aged on its lees for 10 months. It is a so-called "field blend" of at least 15 native Portuguese grape varieties, including Folgazão, Dona Branca, Verdelho, Siria, Malvasia, Rabigato, and many others.
It was bottled unfiltered and unstabilized, and like all Márcio Lopes wines, it is as natural as possible, because all Márcio wines have one thing in common: minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the cellar.
This wine has a very intense citrus aroma, fresh notes, and plenty of minerality. It's very harmonious on the palate, with a very long, persistent body and endless freshness.
Serving suggestion: Red meat and spicy dishes. Ideal temperature: 12ºC.
Can be enjoyed immediately or over the next 10 to 20 years if stored in a cool, dry place away from light.
The name of this wine “Permitido” (in English: permitted) comes from the fact that the grapes come from the hills between 650 and 800 meters above sea level, where you can find silence and breathe pure air and where everyone is allowed to dream, live and feel.
Márcio Lopes: The Rising Star in Vinho Verde.
Márcio Lopes was born in Porto in 1983 and spent many summer holidays with his grandparents in the Porto hinterland, where they grew corn and wheat and also produced wine. At the age of 6, his grandmother placed him in a lagar (a traditional Portuguese granite basin used for winemaking) so that he could crush the grapes with his feet, as is still traditional today. This was the first of many, many wines that young Márcio has produced since then. The rest is history...
A year before graduating with a degree in agricultural engineering in 2006, Márcio began working with renowned winemaker Anselmo Mendes in Melgaço. In 2008, he moved to Australia, where he was responsible for two vintages in Rutherglen and Tasmania. In 2010, he launched his own project, "Pequenos Rebentos" (Portuguese for "little sprouts"), in the Minho region, home of Vinhos Verdes.
