A fresh sweet wine with lots of fruit and energy.
Balaguera is a fresh and light sweet wine with a robust and elegant bouquet featuring notes of candied Seville oranges, apricots, and honey. On the palate, it is fresh, vibrant, velvety, and creamy with subtle toasty notes. The finish is long and refreshing.
The grapes are harvested when overripe, pressed directly, and this wine is then aged for 18 months in large 600 liter oak barrels.
It goes perfectly with foie gras and Roquefort cheese. Since it's much easier to digest, it can replace many Sauternes.
This wine is the result of a spontaneous decision: on the morning of November 14, 2011, the grape harvest on the south-facing slope of the Duclos plot was already in full swing, but not yet complete. The Petit Manseng grapes hung golden and already dried on their vines. Since the weather forecast for the coming days looked very bad, it was immediately decided: these grapes would be harvested that very afternoon! Thus, the grapes were harvested at the stage of a Beerenauslese (selected berry harvest). The name "Balaguera" is taken from the south wind that blows from Spain across the Pyrenees and is reputed to drive people mad, like drunkenness…
