A Breton success story since 1920
La Pointe de Penmarc'h was founded in 1920 in Le Guilvinec, a traditional fishing port on the west coast of Brittany. For over a century, the brand has stood for high-quality canned fish and embodies the maritime heritage of Brittany.
The beginnings at the port
In the early years, the fish – sardines, albacore tuna, mackerel – came directly from the boats and were preserved just steps from the auction hall. At that time, the fishing fleet numbered more than a hundred boats. This immediate proximity to the fishing grounds guaranteed the freshness from the very beginning, a quality that would become the company's trademark.
The Legend of the Golden Sardine
A magical story surrounds the brand: 100 years ago, an old fisherman off Pointe de Penmarc'h is said to have found a tiny fish in his nets that shone in a thousand colors – a golden sardine that no one had ever seen, but which supposedly formed the basis of the cannery's success for more than a century.
Tradition and quality today
Even today, Pointe de Penmarc'h maintains the tradition of high-quality canned goods and is deeply rooted in its local terroir. The company places particular emphasis on products with authentic flavors, some of which come from artisanal fishing.
The 100th anniversary
To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the company released special collector's editions: beautifully designed sardine tins with a retro look and illustrations of coastal landscapes, created by various Breton artists. These limited editions combine culinary tradition with artistic flair, making the tins highly sought-after collector's items.
La Pointe de Penmarc'h is more than just a cannery – it is a living piece of Breton culture and maritime history that has lost none of its authenticity even after 100 years.
