Of course there are good products all over the world made by dedicated people. Nevertheless, after France, my foodie heart belongs above all to one country: Portugal.

Back in 2011, I fell in love with Portugal and everything it has to offer - the warm people, the fine wines, the delicious cuisine and much more.
The attraction that Portuguese wines have for me can be explained for various reasons:

Portugal is home to an impressive variety of indigenous grape varieties that offer a wide range of taste experiences. The country is spread across different wine regions, each with its unique style and characteristics. At the same time, many Portuguese wines offer excellent value for money, making them particularly accessible.

Port wine from Portugal is famous worldwide for its sweet richness and complex depth of flavor. The same applies to wines from Madeira. They are world-famous for their uniqueness, which they owe to the amazing diversity of grape varieties, for their exceptional shelf life, versatile enjoyment and historical significance.

Portugal has a long history of winemaking and has established a culture of quality winemaking. Today, the new generation of young modern winemakers masterfully knows how to combine tradition and innovation in their work.

It always fills me with great joy to see that many of these winegrowers attach great importance to sustainability and environmental protection, and thus make a positive contribution to preserving our environment.

In addition to the wine, I was particularly impressed by the Portuguese canned fish. They are often a little more rustic than their French brothers and sisters, but that is exactly what makes them so special. One of my favorite brands is “Nuri” from the traditional house Pinhais from Matosihnos.

* Saudade, simply explained:

“Saudade” is a Portuguese word that describes a deep feeling of longing, melancholy and missing. It is a complex and difficult to translate concept that carries a mix of different emotions such as sadness, melancholy, nostalgia and love. Saudade often arises when one longs for something or someone that was in the past or is not present. It can refer to lost times, places, experiences or loved ones who are no longer there. The concept of saudade is deeply rooted in Portuguese culture and plays an important role in music, literature and the daily lives of the people of Portugal.
