The Castelão 2021 is a DOC wine from the Portuguese region of Alentejo.
It grows on limestone soils in a continental Mediterranean climate with warm, dry days and strong temperature fluctuations. The Castelão grapes are harvested by hand and completely destemmed.
After a two-day cold maceration, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place at 26-27°C in stainless steel tanks.
The wine is aged for 12 months in used 300-liter French oak barrels.
The region's once most widely cultivated grape variety impresses with a complex nose, light color and elegant body.
1,100 bottles were produced by winemakers Luís Louro and Inês Capão.
The wine has 14% alcohol, a pH of 3.49, a total acidity of 4.8 g/L and a residual sugar content of 0.3 g/L.
