An exceptional varietal wine that celebrates the essence of Portuguese winemaking tradition and the unique characteristics of the Castelão grape in its purest form.
The Castelão 2021 shines in a bright ruby red color and presents a nuanced, slightly dusty bouquet that wonderfully expresses the characteristics of this traditional Portuguese grape variety.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with slightly dusty tannins , which give it an authentic, earthy texture.
A certain maturity and the moderate alcohol content of 13.2% create a harmonious balance. The technical parameters underscore the quality: pH value 3.49 and 5.1 g/l acidity .
Grape variety & vinification
100% Castelão – an authentic Portuguese grape variety planted in 2001 on the characteristic limestone soils around Estremoz. These vines, over 20 years old, lend the wine exceptional depth and complexity.
The vinification was carried out according to traditional methods :
- Destemming the grapes for purer fruit aromas
- Foot fermentation – a centuries-old technique for gentle extraction
- Fermentation in Lagar with native yeasts for authentic terroir expression.
- Maturation for one year in neutral 300-liter barrels
The limited production of 2,500 bottles was bottled in July 2023.
