The squid family includes squid, octopus, and cuttlefish. They are usually about 30 cm long and weigh up to 5 kg. Their delicate arms are particularly popular in cooking, as is the black ink they use when in danger. This can be used to color noodles or rice. Their meat is firm and lean and delicious eaten raw (e.g., as sushi), briefly boiled, seared, grilled, or deep-fried.
