This Camargue long grain black rice is grown, processed and packaged within a 30 km radius in the Camargue in southern France. This rice was historically called "revered rice" or "forbidden rice" in Asia because it was very rare and enriched with many good nutrients. Today it grows in the Camargue and still has very good properties. It retains all of its nutrients through its black or brown shell. As real whole grain rice, it surprises with a firm and atypical taste after cooking. After cooking and on the plate, it stands out from the crowd thanks to its extraordinary color.

This rice is black because of the natural pigments inherent in the plant that grows in the rice fields. The packaging was designed by the painter Michel Tombereau from Nîmes.

  • It has a long cooking time and remains firm, "al dente", after cooking.
  • Cooking time: 20 to 25 minutes

Black rice is cooked in the same way as other types of rice: bring a large amount of water to a boil in a pot and add a little salt. As soon as the water starts to boil, dip the grains into it. Simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes. Place the rice in a colander, then in a bowl and serve. Black rice has the special property of remaining firm and crunchy even after a long cooking time.

    Manufacturer

The Benoit Riz de Canavere company was founded in 1993 by Jean-Louis Benoit, son of Louis Benoit, who from father to son grew rice in the Camargue. Pioneers of rice cultivation in the Camargue, Canavere is a family business that has been working for four generations to develop agricultural production that respects the land and people. The company is committed to sustainable agriculture while offering a local product made entirely in France, in the Camargue, within a radius of 30 km at most. Rice is controlled from the field to the consumer's plate. Rice cultivation allows the preservation of an ecosystem and biodiversity typical of this region. Without paddy fields, the Camargue would be just a salt marsh and there would be no more flora and fauna.
