In this composition, the fruity extra virgin olive oil underscores the finesse of the fish in a particularly fine way. The premium product from La Belle-Iloise, named after the founder of the manufactory.

Brittany is the land of legends and the sea of fishermen. This preserve is not only named after its founder, the fisherman George Hilliet, but also after the patron saint of Christian chivalry. Its legend celebrates a fierce battle against a legendary beast, the dragon. The "La Belle Iloise" cannery was founded in Quiberon in 1932 and today the granddaughter of the founder carries on the family traditions. The mechanization of labor and the processing of frozen fish to save costs still have no place in this cannery. These sardines in olive oil are worked by hand to preserve the fish flesh and are not steamed but fried in oil.

And since everything is a question of presentation with high-quality sardines, here they are presented "à blanc" and not "à bleu", ie their delicate bellies are visible: a sign of care and quality!

Founded in 1932 by Georges Hilliet near the Breton port of Quiberon, the company is now in its third generation. All products are the result of careful manual work, even if a total of 800 employees work in the factory during the sardine high season.

Details

Even the ancient Romans appreciated the sardine and ate it in salted, marinated or smoked form. Until today, the sardine is and remains - if quality and production method are right - a high-quality product. Thanks to their short life span, they have absorbed very few pollutants from the sea and have a high content of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and trace elements. 100g of sardine (about 8 fish) contain 40% of the recommended daily dose of calcium and 100% of vitamin D, which is necessary to absorb the trace elements. In order for the human organism to absorb all these valuable nutrients, it is essential that the sardine is preserved in high quality olive oil, because only this oil allows the human organism to break it down and metabolize it.

For the sake of enjoyment, however, you should not miss out on the many other great creations of the incomparably rich flavor range of canned sardines: Sardines in fruity sauce, in white wine, in butter, with water and lemon ... Try it!

The sardine is still the linchpin of many port towns in Brittany, but also in Spain and Portugal. Nevertheless, fortunately, it is not threatened with extinction and can be enjoyed without remorse.
