The year 2019 was perfect for the Touriga Franca plots and it explains the elegance of this vintage port.
It has been blended with the best grapes from the vineyards at Quinta da Trovisca to form its backbone.
A wine of amazing concentration and yet so elegant. It was a real challenge to create this masterpiece.
The deep purple color gives this vintage port an impressive presence. An intense and refreshing aroma of black fruits, accompanied by dark chocolate and a complex mixture of spices, unfolds on the nose.
The first sip reveals a remarkable concentration, which is nevertheless imbued with sublime elegance.
The strong tannins caress the palate, while the balanced balance of this port exudes flawless harmony.
The lingering finish is an indication of the exceptional aging potential of this vintage.
A vintage port that delights the senses and will gain depth and finesse over the years.
Vintage Port is a single harvest port wine bottled between the second and third year after harvest. It is always red and of all port wines it is the one with the longest aging potential. This long aging potential comes from the complex and concentrated grapes used to produce it. It is very dark in color, rich in tannins, with a lot of body and structure and intense on both the nose and the palate. It is bottled unfiltered to preserve all the elements that can support long-term storage in the bottle. Dark purple when young, the red color becomes lighter over time. However, it takes several decades, if not a century, for the brown nuances to emerge. The fruit flavors remain throughout the life of the Vintage Port. In the initial phase it is fresher, with time more dried fruit aromas emerge. For most port wine collectors and lovers, Vintage Port is the most valued port wine. It is produced in small quantities. Annual production rarely exceeds 1% of total port wine production. And this is only justified by the fact that we need a combination of factors: excellent weather conditions in the best locations to grow grapes in the Douro. It's not about quantity, it's about putting the best of the best in the bottle for us or the next generation to enjoy. In the best harvests, our Vintage Port will contain grapes from the different Quintas to preserve as much complexity as the best grapes can produce. This was the case, for example, in 2005, 2007 or 2011. There are other years when perfection was not achieved in all vineyards. But when we have received grapes in our flagship and most consistent Quinta, Vale d'Agodinho, in perfect conditions and with excellent quality that we believe make a wonderful Vintage Port, then we bottle what we call a Single Quinta Vintage Port. This is the case, for example, with the 2008, 2010 or 2013 vintages. Drink it young if you want to enjoy the freshness and intensity of the best port, or wait a few years and you will experience elegance, complexity and harmony in a bottle of port.
