A modern Viognier with classic elegance
This single-varietal Viognier is the result of a collaboration between two renowned Rhône winemakers – Nicolas Jaboulet and Alexandre Caso. With their Maison Les Alexandrins, they pursue a contemporary approach that combines the tradition of the Rhône Valley with modern winemaking techniques.
Terroir & Origin: The grapes grow in high-altitude vineyards of the Ardèche region and in select sites on the Drôme plain near Allex. The altitude ensures cooler temperatures, which give the wine its remarkable freshness and vibrancy – atypical for the often opulent Viognier grape.
Character & Aromatics: A radiant golden yellow color with brilliant reflections. The bouquet unfolds the characteristic Viognier intensity with seductive aromas of white-fleshed peaches and sun-ripened apricots, interwoven with delicate floral notes. The palate is opulent and full-bodied, revealing an impressive array of flavors. The cool, high-altitude vineyards impart a refreshing acidity that perfectly frames the luscious fruit and ensures a harmonious balance. A captivating wine that combines intensity with elegance, impressing with its freshness and harmony.
Vinification: The grapes are harvested in the early morning hours to preserve their freshness. After gentle, prolonged pressing at low temperatures, fermentation takes place at a controlled 20°C in stainless steel tanks. This minimalist approach preserves the primary fruitiness and prevents the wine from becoming too heavy.
Serving suggestion: A seductive aperitif wine that unfolds its full splendor at 12°C. Perfect with seafood appetizers, grilled white fish, or aromatic vegetable dishes with Mediterranean herbs. This wine should be drunk young – ideally within the next two years – to fully appreciate its vibrant fruitiness.
Despite climatic challenges, including frost in April and heavy rainfall until July, the 2024 vintage was a success. Careful selection during the harvest, which began on September 10th, yielded grapes of surprisingly high quality, giving this wine its creamy acidity and beautiful structure.
