The Monção and Melgaço subregion is famous for its unique wines, characterized by exceptional freshness, minerality, balance, and lightness. This also applies to this Vinho Verde from Márcio Lopes, for which he used grapes from select producers in Monção and Melgaço.
An exceptional Alvarinho that reflects the full complexity and finesse of this noble grape variety. Its green color in the glass already promises a special taste experience.
The intense bouquet reveals a fascinating composition of tropical fruits, underscored by subtle vegetal notes – a result of the careful, eight-hour maceration period. Meticulous hand-harvesting and transport in small crates ensure the optimal quality of the grapes.
Temperature-controlled fermentation at 18-23°C over 15 days gives this wine its impressive structure. On the palate, it presents itself as perfectly balanced, with a remarkably long, lingering finish that underlines its exceptional quality.
A versatile companion to fine cuisine, this wine pairs harmoniously with salads, delicate fish, light meats, and grilled dishes. The ideal serving temperature is 12°C. With proper storage – cool, dark, and dry – this Alvarinho exhibits an impressive aging potential of up to 10 years.
As a winemaker , Márcio Lopes intervenes only as much as absolutely necessary, trusting as much as possible in the natural processes of winemaking. For example, he ferments his wines exclusively with natural yeasts and—like many of the producers we work with—he firmly believes that if the grapes are of high quality, he can produce outstanding and harmonious wines that reflect the character of their terroir. And he seems to be doing quite well with this approach: Márcio Lopes' wines are unmistakably fresh and vibrant, characterized without exception by bright and clear varietal aromas. They are present and pure, with crisp acidity and a balanced texture. This makes the wine the ideal accompaniment to seafood and dishes with creamy sauces.
