This elegant red wine is produced in the upper Douro Valley from select grapes, including Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, as well as a small percentage of older grape varieties. The vineyards are situated on the left bank of the Douro River and are strategically protected from intense heat, resulting in cooler conditions. This allows for a slower and more balanced ripening of the grapes and enhances the complexity of the aromas.
Winemaking is carried out according to traditional methods: After manual harvesting, the grapes are transported in small boxes, destemmed and pounded in granite basins (lagares), where they ferment for about ten days.
In tasting, this wine presents an intense aroma of red fruits, complemented by a subtle oak note. On the palate, it is structured, versatile in its gastronomy, and has a long finish.
Proibido Tinto Reserva pairs perfectly with red meat and grilled dishes and should be served at 16°C. It can be enjoyed immediately or has a cellaring potential of up to ten years, provided it is stored lying down in a cool, dry, and dark place without temperature fluctuations.

As a winemaker, Márcio Lopes intervenes only as much as absolutely necessary, trusting as much as possible in the natural processes of winemaking. For example, he ferments his wines exclusively with natural yeasts and—like many of the producers we work with—he firmly believes that if the grapes are of high quality, he can produce outstanding and harmonious wines that reflect the character of their terroir. And he seems to be doing quite well with this approach: Márcio Lopes' wines are unmistakably fresh and vibrant, characterized without exception by bright and clear varietal aromas. They are present and pure, with crisp acidity and a balanced texture. This makes them the ideal accompaniment to seafood and dishes with creamy sauces.
