A Vinho Verde from Alvarinho, Loureiro and Trajadura!
In the Vinho Verde region, Márcio Lopes works with the Alvarinho, Loureiro and Trajadura varieties from the Monção and Melgaço subregion.
These areas have a very special microclimate with somewhat less Atlantic influence than the rest of the region: Here, the winters are cold with moderate rainfall, and the summers are hot and dry.
Márcio now cultivates around 5 hectares of vineyards growing on granite soil. He also buys grapes from select farmers who work in the same sustainable way as he does and refrain from using herbicides.
The Pequenos Rebentos Lote 3 2024 is an elegant blend of the Portuguese grape varieties Alvarinho, Loureiro, and Trajadura, masterfully combining nobility and versatility. After hand-harvesting and transport in small crates, the grapes are destemmed, macerated for four hours, gently pressed, and decanted for 48 hours. Controlled fermentation at 14-15°C over 15 days ensures its characteristic freshness.
Visually, the wine impresses with its greenish color, while aromatically it unfolds citrus fruits, minerals, and subtle herbal notes. On the palate, it is lively with a fine perlage that leads to a long, intense finish.
Served at 10°C, the Pequenos Rebentos Lote 3 2024 can be enjoyed immediately or, if stored optimally, consumed within the next three to four years.
A versatile food companion, ideally suited to salads, fine fish dishes, and light meats. It is best enjoyed at 10°C. With proper storage – cool, dry, and protected from light – it has an aging potential of three to four years.
As a winemaker, Márcio Lopes intervenes only as much as absolutely necessary and trusts as much as possible in the natural processes of winemaking. For example, he ferments his wines exclusively with natural yeasts and – like many of the producers we work with – firmly believes that if the quality of the grapes is right, he can produce outstanding and harmonious wines that reflect the character of their terroir.
And he seems to be doing quite well with it: Márcio Lopes' wines are unmistakably fresh and lively and are characterized without exception by bright and clear typical varietal aromas.
They are vibrant and pure, with crisp acidity and a balanced texture. This makes the wine the ideal accompaniment to seafood and dishes with creamy sauces.
Márcio Lopes: The Rising Star in Vinho Verde.
Márcio Lopes was born in Porto in 1983 and spent many summer holidays with his grandparents in the hinterland of Porto, where they grew corn and wheat and also produced wine. At the age of six, his grandmother placed him in a lagar (a traditional Portuguese granite basin used for winemaking) so he could crush the grapes with his feet, a practice still common today. This was the first of many wines that young Márcio has produced since. The rest is history…

A year before graduating with a degree in agricultural engineering in 2006, Márcio began working with the renowned winemaker Anselmo Mendes in Melgaço. In 2008, he moved to Australia, where he was responsible for two vintages in Rutherglen and Tasmania. In 2010, he launched his own project, "Pequenos Rebentos" (Portuguese for "little shoots"), in the Minho region, the home of Vinho Verdes.
