Vineyards and vinification:
The grapes come from a single vineyard in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos on the south coast of the island of Madeira. Fermentation is stopped by adding brandy (96%) to achieve the desired level of sweetness.
This wine comes from the same single Tinta Negra vineyard from which we made the 1997 vintage.
Half of the grapes were harvested a week before they were fully ripe to achieve higher initial acidity.
This wine was aged for nine years in old French oak barrels using the Canteiro method. In June 2010 we filled 3061 bottles, each one numbered.
Tasting Notes and Recommendations:
Golden color. Delicate citrus aroma, dried fruits and slightly smoked. Soft palate and balanced acidity in a long and fresh finish.
Excellent as an aperitif. Goes well with olives, roasted almonds, marinated fish, salads and cheese.
Best served at 11/12 °C. This wine has been filtered and does not need to be decanted; it remains in good condition for several months even after opening.
