Andalusian frigate mackerel
Bluish colour and silvery belly, very tough and firm skin, completely scaleless except on the front part of the body and along the lateral line. The side has a characteristic border like that of the mackerel.
The spawning grounds are usually located near the coast, in fairly warm waters. Therefore, there is a massive input into the Alboran Sea in June and July.
Fishing is based on the almadrabeta, a system very similar to that used for tuna fishing. It involves selectively catching the fish that enter the defined area and guiding them to the boats thanks to the nets that are spread out. This method of artisanal fishing allows the workers to dispose of the products directly in the sea, so that subsequent disposal is not necessary. Another method of fishing is the trammel net, a net in which the fish become entangled.
It is appreciated for its meat, which is rich in vitamins A and D and omega-3. Some of the seals that guarantee the quality of canned frigate mackerel are the "Protected Geographical Indication" and the "Regulatory Board for the Protected Geographical Indication Melva de Andalucía".

It has a whitish-grey colour, a compact, soft and juicy texture, a pleasant smell and a very characteristic flavour, different from that of other bluefish.
It is called "canutera" when the frigate tuna does not weigh more than 600 g. For this reason, it has the appearance of "small canutillos".
