Miss Can is a Lisbon-based canning brand with a family history: in 1911, Alberto Soares Ribeiro founded factories in Setúbal and Olhão, but they closed after 1974. In 2013, his great-grandson Tiago Soares Ribeiro started up again—along with his twin sister Bárbara Cabral and Marta Fernandes, initially from a yellow scooter below the Castelo de São Jorge.
The difference lies in the process: the fish is steamed before the can is sealed, rather than being packed raw and cooked inside. This gives it a firmer texture—ideal for anyone who likes their sardines compact on bread rather than falling apart. The fish is packed by hand and comes from the Portuguese coast, with the exception of cod.
