This elegant and complex single vintage port was bottled in 2022 and is now ready to drink. However, it has the potential to age in the bottle and could benefit from another 10 or 15 years to gain more complexity.

In the mouth: full of red fruits, very young, the tannins are firm. The long finish reveals floral notes with hints of spice and passion fruit.

Most of the vine growing in this steep slope area is done on terraces, which drastically minimizes the use of mechanical cultivation methods.

Our commitment to nature led us to start converting to organic farming in 2012. Today about 30% has been converted and the remaining parts are managed with responsible and sustainable methods. We hope to be able to grow 100% organic soon.

Colour: saturated ruby red
Aromas: Dominated by fresh violet aromas mixed with dark cherries and spices.

Goes well with: dark chocolate, fruit desserts, aged cheeses

Port wine customer:

Ruby is the color of all red wines when they are made. Ruby Port is red in colour, red fruit aromas predominate and full-bodied on the palate. It is bottled when it is young to preserve its red color and fresh aromas before they oxidize. It can be aged in oak, but if so only for a short time, no more than a few years and almost always in large capacity oak barrels to reduce the influence of oxygen during its aging. Ruby style varies in intensity of colour, complexity of aromas and body. From less to more, here is the order:

  • Ruby: a blend of port wine aged about three years.
  • Reserve Ruby: a blend of port wine aged around six years.
  • Late Bottled Vintage (LBV): a single harvest bottled 4 to 6 years after harvest.
  • Crusted: Vintage Port bottled 2 to 5 years after the harvest and aged in the cellar for at least 3 years to form a crust inside the bottle.
  • Vintage: a harvest bottled 2 years after harvest.

Manufacturer

Although the Quevedo family has been producing port wine for more than 5 generations, the current company was only founded in 1993. This makes us one of the youngest port wine houses on the Douro.

With less than 30 years of existence, we feel like we're still at the beginning of the journey and that every day is a new page that we fill with what we love to do most: explore all the possibilities of enjoying wine.

In the late '70s, Oscar and Beatriz Quevedo decided to start a family in S. João Pesqueira, in the heart of the Douro Valley. Both are descendants of families with a long tradition in viticulture and port wine production.

The first Quevedo vineyards were planted in 1889 by Abel Gouveia Costa in Valongo dos Azeites, in S. João da Pesqueira. Abel was succeeded by his son, Raul Gouveia Costa, who made the business flourish, and then by his son-in-law, João Batista Quevedo, who expanded the vineyards into new operations and passed on the love of winemaking to his son, Oscar Quevedo.

Beatriz's family also had their roots in the Carrazeda district on the north bank of the Douro. The main property of the family was the Quinta da Alegria with the train station of the same name.

After making port in his father's facilities for a number of years, Oscar Sr. built a new winery that is now the Quevedo's headquarters. In the meantime he increased the vineyards to the current 100 hectares and 25 hectares of organic olive cultivation.

In 1993 the Quevedo brand was launched, heralding a new era for the family, who were finally bottling port under their own brand, something only possible since 1986 when Portugal joined the EU.

Growing up surrounded by vineyards and barrels, Cláudia and Oscar Quevedo (Jr.) have followed in their parents' footsteps in the family business.

Cláudia Quevedo graduated in oenology from the University of Vila Real in 1998. Since then she has been making port wines in Quevedo. Cláudia is married to Fernando João Martins and lives near the winery with their children Beatriz and João.

Oscar Quevedo (Jr.), who studied economics in Porto and worked in finance in Switzerland and Spain, joined the family in 2009 after the death of his grandfather. He is responsible for Quevedo sales in more than 40 countries.

He is married to Nadia Adria, who will join the company in 2020 and will be responsible for the Marketing and Tourism department. The couple have three children: Marc, Alba and Miguel.
