The Douro Valley is a great place for growing vines, olives and almonds. Olive trees have always been planted in the Douro, in ancient times they were placed in the middle of the vineyards, between the vines, to better benefit from the land. Nowadays they are planted at the edge of the vineyards or in a grove. In Quevedo there has always been a small number of olive trees both at the edge of the vineyards and in groves. A few years ago, Claudia Quevedo came up with the idea of converting olive cultivation to organic. This idea was well received by the family and Quevedo has been producing organic olive oil since 2006.
Color : olive green, slightly cloudy
Palate : Green fruits like apple, fresh grass with hints of spicy notes.
The organically grown olive trees are located in Valongo dos Azeites, which in English means "Long Valley of Olive Oil" - what better name could the village have?! Valongo dos Azeites is 14 km south of S. João da Pesqueira. This is the place where our ancestors settled several decades ago. In total, Quevedo has 25 hectares of olive trees, most of which were planted over 50 years ago. In total, our olive groves include 4,000 olive trees that produce around 5,000 liters of olive oil. We are very satisfied with the organic project. It is true that organic farming takes more time and resources than conventional farming, but ultimately we end up with a variety of weeds, insects and small animals that would not survive if herbicides were used.
Quevedo Extra Virgin Olive Oil is an organic olive oil with exceptional aromatic properties. It is extracted at low temperatures to preserve all the aromas of the olives. This olive oil is green in color and may form a sediment after a few months in the bottle as it has been filtered very gently. It is an olive oil for true lovers of the genuine and authentic taste of extra virgin olive oil.
