The Jongieux Blanc from Domaine Carrel & Senger is a single-varietal Jacquère – the grape variety from which around 70 percent of Savoyard white wines are made. The vines grow on clay-limestone soils around Jongieux, and the grapes are predominantly harvested by hand. At the winery, this regularly award-winning wine is considered one of the classics.
In the cellar, it is gently pressed pneumatically and fermented in stainless steel tanks at around 16 °C, after which the wine matures on the lees until bottling.
In the glass, it shines brightly with green reflections. The nose offers citrus and ripe pear, along with floral nuances; on the palate, it is light and fresh, with a subtle mineral note on the finish.
With its 11.5% ABV, it is an easy-going food companion: well chilled as an aperitif, with seafood and, of course, with anything Savoyard cuisine has to offer – fondue, raclette, tartiflette. Best enjoyed young, within one to three years.
