The N°09 Ocean is Opinel's pocket knife for the water — built for anyone who sails, paddles, or is out on a boat. Every detail counts here, because on board, a tool must work reliably even in salt water, spray, and with clammy hands.

The 9.3 cm stainless steel blade is partially serrated — the smooth side cuts cleanly, while the serrated part cuts through thick natural or synthetic ropes without fraying them.

A shackle opener is integrated into the blade spine, allowing shackles to be quickly loosened on board. There is also a hardened steel flogging hook (épissoir) — the pointed tool used to untangle ropes, open thimbles, or splice without cutting through them.

The yellow handle made of glass-fiber-reinforced polyamide remains easy to grip even when wet and withstands impacts, salt water, and temperatures from –40 to +80 °C — the signal color makes it immediately visible on deck or in the water.

A ball-less whistle with 110 dB and a range of around 300 m is located at the end of the handle and works in all weather conditions. A lanyard loop is also provided.

The Virobloc safety ring, an Opinel invention from 1955, locks the blade in both the open and closed positions — important when the knife is carried in a backpack or oilskin bag.
