Conceito Bastardo tinto (Douro)

The Conceito Bastardo Tinto is made from the Bastardo grape, which is characterized by a strikingly light color and was one of the most important grape varieties in Portugal until the 18th century. But because deep red red wines became more and more popular all over Europe - and also in Portugal - the Bastardo gradually fell into oblivion.
The young Portuguese winegrowers have now rediscovered this grape - much to our luck! This 100% Bastardo from Conceito delights with its warm herbal and cherry notes and is a very elegant, light wine with subtle tannins.

It grows on 30-year-old vines on the Quinta Chão do Pereiro that Rita's grandfather planted there and there are only 5,000 bottles of this vintage worldwide!

By the way, the bastardo also has a brother: the Legítimo !

• Alcohol: 13% vol.
• Acid: 6.4 g/l

• Residual sweetness: 1.6 g/l
• Vinification: Manual harvest, foot pounding of the grapes in traditional granite lagares, no destemming, no added lees. Once the fermentation is complete, it is transferred to stainless steel tanks.
• Aging: 10 months in stainless steel tanks.
• Contains sulphites

Rita Marques Ferreira is one of the currently most highly traded winemakers of the new generation from the Douro Valley. Their wines regularly receive very high ratings from international wine critics.
Rita's family has been growing wine in the upper Douro for several generations. Their vineyards cover a total of around 85 hectares at an average altitude of 500m above sea level.
The vineyards are cared for without the use of chemicals and in a very natural way. Everything is still done manually. Rita, who incidentally learned her trade in Bordeaux and then worked as a "Flying Winemaker" in New Zealand and South Africa, sells parts of her harvest to other wineries. She only keeps the best for her own wines and uses them to produce fine and elegant wines with lots of freshness and minerality. Everything is well thought out because Rita has a concept. Hence the name: Conceito.
