A young red wine with soft tannins. Garnet red in color with delicate reddish-brown reflections on the edge of the glass. On the palate there are clear notes of red fruits, especially cherries. The wine is almost a bit reminiscent of the well-known Portuguese cherry liqueur Ginjinha from Óbidos - of course less sweet! An uncomplicated wine for every day, which reflects the typical freshness of the region and can be wonderfully combined with red meat but also with fish dishes.

Manufacturer

Tomás Emídio is likeable, charismatic, courageous and authentic. We met the winemaker from Quinta Varzea da Pedra and his older brother Alberto in Porto at the end of January 2020 at our favorite wine fair: Simplesmente Vinho.
At that time, there was an immediate spark between us and we spontaneously put on a veritable wine tasting marathon. All the wines of the Quinta are fresh, very mineral, full of aromas and carry all the richness and unmistakable identity of their terroir. They dance in your mouth and make you want more.

The Quinta da Várzea da Pedra is located in Bombarral, in the very west of the country, sandwiched between the Atlantic and the Serra do Montejunto. Like the region where the winery is located, its history is shaped by the heat of the sun, the robustness of the earth and the freshness of the sea. History is still tangibly present here: the Emídio brothers inherited a certain stubbornness from their ancestors, but also the pleasure of devoting body and soul to the not always easy work in the vineyard. Now in their fourth generation, they reinterpret old habits and traditions and have thus invented their very own style. The beautiful design for the labels is based on the magnificent old azulejos that still adorn the walls of the quinta today.
