The grapes are completely destemmed and ferment slowly at a controlled temperature up to 25º C. They are gently filtered before bottling.

Colour: dark amber.
Nose: Sweet jam and plum scents mingle with notes of hazelnuts and dried figs.
Palate: The sweetness and acidity are beautifully balanced and culminate in a long and satisfying finish.

This young tawny has been aged in wood for 5 years. The result is a smooth and complex port wine that still has the freshness of a young port wine, but also has elegant notes of figs and plums.

Located between 400 and 500 meters above sea level, Quinta da Valeira catches every passing breeze, making it cooler than many other vineyards in this hot eastern part of the Douro Valley. The slate soil is a winemaker's dream, as it allows rain to penetrate deep into the slope to irrigate the roots of our vines, but retains the sunny heat of the day well into the evening to ensure a temperate and gentle microclimate create in which our grapes can ripen perfectly.
Quinta da Valeira is a biologically diverse and beautiful landscape with almost 10 hectares of old vines on 27 hectares of land. A little more than half of the vineyard is planted with Touriga Nacional. The Touriga Nacional is probably the finest of the port wine grape varieties. It is extremely aromatic and complex, with intense flavor notes that can range from fruity to floral to mineral, depending on the conditions. A naturally high tannin content and good acidity are the basis for balanced and long-lasting port wines.
Quinta da Valeira has belonged to the Quevedo family for generations.

Although the Quevedo family has been producing port wine for more than 5 generations, the current company was only founded in 1993. This makes us one of the youngest port wine houses on the Douro.

With less than 30 years of existence, we feel like we're still at the beginning of the journey and that every day is a new page that we fill with what we love to do most: explore all the possibilities of enjoying wine.

In the late '70s, Oscar and Beatriz Quevedo decided to start a family in S. João Pesqueira, in the heart of the Douro Valley. Both are descendants of families with a long tradition in viticulture and port wine production.

The first Quevedo vineyards were planted in 1889 by Abel Gouveia Costa in Valongo dos Azeites, in S. João da Pesqueira. Abel was succeeded by his son, Raul Gouveia Costa, who made the business flourish, and then by his son-in-law, João Batista Quevedo, who expanded the vineyards into new operations and passed on the love of winemaking to his son, Oscar Quevedo.

Beatriz's family also had their roots in the Carrazeda district on the north bank of the Douro. The main property of the family was the Quinta da Alegria with the train station of the same name.

After making port in his father's facilities for a number of years, Oscar Sr. built a new winery that is now the Quevedo's headquarters. In the meantime he increased the vineyards to the current 100 hectares and 25 hectares of organic olive cultivation.

In 1993 the Quevedo brand was launched, heralding a new era for the family, who were finally bottling port under their own brand, something only possible since 1986 when Portugal joined the EU.

Growing up surrounded by vineyards and barrels, Cláudia and Oscar Quevedo (Jr.) have followed in their parents' footsteps in the family business.

Cláudia Quevedo graduated in oenology from the University of Vila Real in 1998. Since then she has been making port wines in Quevedo. Cláudia is married to Fernando João Martins and lives near the winery with their children Beatriz and João.

Oscar Quevedo (Jr.), who studied economics in Porto and worked in finance in Switzerland and Spain, joined the family in 2009 after the death of his grandfather. He is responsible for Quevedo sales in more than 40 countries.

He is married to Nadia Adria, who will join the company in 2020 and will be responsible for the Marketing and Tourism department. The couple have three children: Marc, Alba and Miguel.
