Fishing method: Almadrabeta

The Almadrabeta (the small Almadraba), with a system very similar to that of tuna fishing, selectively catches the fish that go to the designated area, thanks to the spread nets that lead the fish to the boats.

Almadraba is both a fishing facility and a traditional way of tuna fishing in Spain. The Arabic word مضربة / maḍraba originally means "place where is struck". Fishing techniques have changed little over the past thousand years. For this, the fishermen use gillnets, which are attached to the bottom of the sea with anchors and act as a fish fence. Season for the almadraba is spring, especially the months of April and May.
